Media reveal reason behind Hegseth's decision to halt arms supplies to Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made the decision to suspend the delivery of certain weapons to Ukraine after receiving a memo from his Deputy for Policy, Elbridge Colby.

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, the memo stated that Ukraine's requests for American weapons could further deplete the Pentagon’s stockpiles.

Elbridge Colby seeks to reorient the U.S. military toward countering China. This has placed him at the centre of the Trump administration's sharp shift in approach to arms supplies for Ukraine.

The publication notes that Colby is playing a key role in shaping the new U.S. defence strategy, which will define government spending and the deployment of American forces for years to come.
