Media: Rome Statute, ICJ can't protect Armenian soldiers from drone strikes
Armenian newspaper Aravot has written that the Rome Statue and the decisions of the International Court of Justice will not be able to protect Armenian soldiers from drone strikes.
"There is a widespread belief in Armenia that if Azerbaijan launches a new war against Armenia, the West will come to the rescue. Unfortunately, such thinking is a narrative and has nothing to do with real politics," Caliber.Az quotes the publication as saying.
"Therefore, we should not pretend that we have such an enemy as Russia. No matter how much we don't like it, no matter how obvious it is that Russia has not fulfilled and is not fulfilling its allied obligations to Armenia, Russia has a decisive role in the region, and we as a state and a nation cannot ignore this reality.
I wonder how Armenia will join the EU in a few years when, for example, North Macedonia applied for membership in 2004 and the negotiation process started only last year. There is no need to be afraid to speak the truth. The West will not send troops to Armenia to protect Armenians from Azerbaijanis. Documents, treaties, decisions of international courts cannot be a guarantee for us, the Rome Statute, decisions of the International Court of Justice and international agreements cannot protect us when our soldiers are hit by UAVs," the article says.
