Media: Russia creating difficulties for Armenian migrant workers
Russian authorities are increasingly being accused of creating difficulties for Armenian migrant workers, amid what regional media describe as a deterioration in relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
Alongside mounting obstacles faced by Armenian entrepreneurs, citizens travelling from Armenia to Russia for work are also encountering heightened scrutiny and barriers at the border, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian press.
In recent days, Armenian seasonal and migrant workers have reportedly faced entry problems when attempting to cross into Russia, with some being turned back at the Upper Lars border checkpoint on the Russia–Georgia route.
The reports say the reasons for refusal of entry have not been formally clarified by Russian authorities.
However, they come amid increasingly sharp rhetoric in Russian political circles regarding what is described as “anti-Russian behaviour” by the Armenian leadership.
