Firefighting trains have arrived at the seaport of Taganrog to help extinguish a fire involving petroleum products that broke out following a large-scale aerial attack.

According to Caliber.Az, Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar made an announcement on the Russian social media platform Max.

"Emergency crews continue to tackle the petroleum products fire at the seaport. A firefighting train has arrived at the scene. There is sufficient firefighting foam available, which is essential to minimise harmful emissions and reduce environmental damage," Slyusar wrote.

Evacuation of residents has begun in Taganrog from the emergency zone following a Ukrainian armed forces attack.

“The drone threat in the city remains. We are currently evacuating people whose homes have fallen within the emergency zone,” said Taganrog mayor Svetlana Kambulova.

A major fire has broken out at a port terminal in the southern Russian city of Taganrog following what Ukrainian monitoring channels described as an overnight attack.

Russian independent outlet ASTRA reported that eyewitnesses shared photos and videos showing a large blaze at the site.

Ukrainian monitoring channels claimed the fire had engulfed the Kurgannefteprodukt port terminal, operated by Yugtranzitservice, a company within the structure of Russian state-controlled oil producer Rosneft.

The terminal is primarily used for loading and unloading petroleum products onto and from seagoing vessels.
