Media: Strike targets major explosives producers in Russia's Chapayevsk photo / video

28 March 2026 11:07

An overnight strike targeted the territory of an explosives production complex in Chapayevsk, Samara Oblast, Russia, according to an open-source intelligence analysis by ASTRA.

Citing Ukrainian OSINT analysts, ASTRA reported that the attack was carried out using long-range FP-5 “Flamingo” missiles. Residents of Chapayevsk reported numerous explosions during the night of March 28, while a missile alert was declared across the region. Eyewitnesses recorded video footage from the scene of the attack.

According to ASTRA’s analysis, the strike hit an industrial hub in Chapayevsk where two defence-related enterprises are located — Promsintez and Polymer. It remains unclear which of the two facilities was directly hit. At the same time, video footage indicates that police blocked access after the attack from Lenin Street toward the site of the Polymer/Promsintez industrial area.

Regional authorities presented a different assessment of the incident. The governor stated that there were no casualties and no damage, saying: “Today the enemy made an unsuccessful attempt to attack the Samara region. There are no casualties. There is no damage to social or residential facilities.”

Promsintez produces industrial explosives, including TNT, ammonites and nitrobenzene. The enterprise is located at 4 Proizvodstvennaya Street. Polymer manufactures weapons and ammunition, as well as explosives for defense needs, and is located at 1 Kuibyshev Street.

ASTRA previously reported that on April 5, 2025, a drone strike on the Promsintez plant led to the spill of approximately one ton of nitric acid. According to the outlet, local authorities concealed the incident at the time. Earlier, on March 22, another drone struck the roof of one of the plant’s workshops, causing it to catch fire.

According to background information cited by RBC, Promsintez was established in February 1997 in Chapayevsk on the basis of Polymer as an explosives manufacturing enterprise. The company describes itself as the successor to the Samara Sergievsky explosives plant, founded in 1911 by the Military Council under the War Ministry of the Russian Empire. Today, it is considered one of the main producers of industrial explosives in Russia and the CIS.

The company manufactures a wide range of products, from nitrobenzene to finished TNT charges, which are used in both open-pit and underground mining operations, as well as in blasting work in mine shafts and tunnels.

A separate Ukrainian OSINT project, CyberBoroshno, also reported after analyzing available footage that FP-5 “Flamingo” missiles were used in the strike on Chapayevsk.
