Media: UK PM wants to send troops to Ukraine to invoke NATO's Article Five
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer intends to send British troops to Ukraine in order to activate NATO's Article 5.
The main idea of the head of the British government is that Russia can attack British forces or equipment, which will justify London's requests for the use of collective defense, Caliber.Az reports, citing The National Interest.
"The obvious plan is for the Russians to carry out several strikes on British troops or equipment, and thus justify London's calls for the use of Article 5," the article says.
The publication notes that Starmer understands that the British armed forces in Ukraine will face difficulties due to defense budget cuts, so he will seek to involve the United States in an open conflict with Russia.
On March 4, Starmer spoke in favor of sending troops to Ukraine in the House of Commons. He noted that the country is ready to send planes to Ukraine to close the skies. He said Britain would "play a leading role" if needed, along with others.
NATO’s Article 5 is the cornerstone of the alliance’s collective defense principle. It states that an attack on one NATO member is considered an attack on all members. This principle is designed to deter aggression by ensuring that any adversary risks a unified military response from the entire alliance.
