Media: US military pulls back to fortified base as Iranian danger looms in Syria
US forces have rapidly evacuated two military bases in Syria’s Hasakah countryside amid concerns over potential Iranian attacks, according to Syria TV, citing a military source from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), linked to the PKK/YPG.
The source revealed that the withdrawals from the al-Wazir and Tal Baydar bases coincided with the onset of Israeli strikes against Iran. During this period, US troops relocated both military personnel and officials from the US State Department to a more secure and fortified base.
Significantly, the so-called "ministerial guesthouse," which housed SDF commander Mazloum Abdi alongside US diplomats and officials, was also hastily evacuated. Abdi and the American representatives were transferred to the al-Shaddadi base, situated south of Hasakah.
This al-Shaddadi installation boasts strategic advantages, including its own airport, advanced radar systems, and robust air defence capabilities. These features render it largely impervious to missile or drone assaults from Iran or Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq.
In addition to these movements, a small US military detachment previously stationed at the Tal Baydar base along the international highway north of Hasakah was shifted to the Kasrak base, approximately 10 kilometres away along the same route.
