Medvedev: Taliban caused less harm to Russia than Western-backed groups
Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said in an article for the journal Rodina that the Afghan movement Taliban, while still operating as a terrorist organisation, caused Russia less harm than Western-backed civic organisations promoting the country’s fragmentation.
“Let us be honest: the movement Taliban, long listed as a terrorist organisation, has caused modern Russia far less damage than all those pseudo-scientific institutions whose aim is to dismantle our country under the guise of aiding the oppressed,” Medvedev wrote.
“Their goal has always been the same,” he added. “To break apart the multiethnic people of Russia.”
In April, Russia’s Supreme Court suspended the ban on the Afghan movement “Taliban,” which had previously been included on the list of terrorist organisations. The nationalist group came to power in Afghanistan in 2021 and has since ceased to operate as an international terrorist cell.
