Medvedev warns Armenia of severe consequences over Russia ties rupture

28 June 2026 13:41

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman and leader of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev has warned that any rupture of long-standing ties with Moscow would lead to “inevitable severe consequences” for ordinary citizens of Armenia, according to TASS citing the party’s press service.

Medvedev said the West views Armenia only as an instrument in its confrontation with Russia and is interested in “clearing the political field” of forces that support maintaining relations between Moscow and Yerevan.

He also accused European Union countries of unprecedented interference in Armenia’s electoral process, claiming that the state apparatus in Yerevan had effectively been placed under “manual control.” As an example, he referred to the prosecution of Prosperous Armenia party leader Gagik Tsarukyan.

“Russia will judge the true intentions of Armenia’s authorities based on their actions,” Medvedev added.
