Medvedev: Western states act as enemies, Europe’s role saddens Moscow
02 February 2026 14:30
Russia’s Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said it is regrettable that Western states now act as enemies of Russia and that it is “especially sad” that many of them are European countries, in an interview with TASS.
Asked who Russia’s enemies are, Medvedev said they are states seeking Russia’s destruction, defeat, and disintegration.
“Unfortunately, these are Western countries, and it is particularly sad that a significant part of them are European states,” he noted.
Medvedev added that he feels “partly hurt,” stressing that European countries are close to Russia in terms of civilizational code and historical development, and calling the current “rabid Russophobic position” surprising.
