MFA: Russia rejects Israel threats in Caspian region
Russia has rejected what it describes as threats from Israel toward the Caspian region, reaffirming its position that the area must remain free of military confrontation.
Speaking to TASS, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Moscow considers the Caspian a zone of peaceful and mutually beneficial cooperation and opposes any actions that could destabilise it.
“It would not be unnecessary to reiterate our well-known and clear position: the Caspian region is a space of security for peaceful and mutually beneficial cooperation, free from any kind of military confrontation,” Zakharova said.
She added that what Russia views as threats posed by Israel to the Caspian waters — including risks to trade and cargo transportation — are unacceptable and should be firmly condemned by all littoral states.
