MFA: Russia to raise child deaths issue in Iran with UN envoy

Russia intends to raise the issue of children killed in Iran during recent US and Israeli strikes in talks with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Vanessa Fraser, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov announced.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Alimov said he plans to meet the UN envoy personally and also arrange talks between Fraser and Russia’s presidential commissioner for children’s rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, Caliber.Az reports.

Fraser arrived in Russia on April 28.

Her visit is officially focused on protecting children in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, on the first day of the US and Israeli military operation against Iran, a girls’ school — Shajareh Tayebeh — in the southern city of Minab was struck.

The attack reportedly killed 168 schoolgirls and 14 staff members.
