Modernised ASELSAN mortars successfully used by Turkish, Azerbaijani armies PHOTO

02 March 2023 11:18

The Winter Exercises-2023 have effectively used 81-mm and 120-mm mortar electronic conversion systems, which were upgraded by ASELSAN and first delivered in October 2022.

The military news platform DefenceTurk announced this on its Twitter page, Caliber.Az reports.

The first mortars were effectively used in the Winter Exercises-2023 as part of a project initiated by the Türkiye’s Defence Industries Presidency (SSB) and carried out by ASELSAN. An offensive task was carried out as part of the exercises, with tank and motorized rifle units from the Turkish and Azerbaijani Armed Forces participating.

Upgraded 60-mm, 81-mm and 120-mm mortars have received new characteristics, in particular, to fire in a short time, with greater accuracy and, if necessary, fewer personnel.

Ismail Demir, the head of the SSB, shared his opinion about the new deliveries on Twitter:

"We have carried out the first deliveries of 60, 81, and 120 mm mortars to the Armed Forces, which we have upgraded by equipping them with a new aiming system, an intelligent fire control system and laser rangefinders. Thus, our mortars have a higher fire accuracy in less time," the publication says.

Qualification and acceptance tests of the intelligent fire control system of the team's 60-mm mortars and a sub-component of the system, the ALRF-S50 laser rangefinder, improvements to the 81-mm fork, and qualification and acceptance tests of the ALRF L-100 laser rangefinder, which is a sub-component of the system, took place within the framework of the mortar modernisation project initiated by the Defence Industries Presidency and conducted by ASELSAN. Furthermore, qualification and acceptance tests of the new 120 mm mortar positioning system and the ALRF-L100 laser rangefinder, a system sub-component, were completed successfully.

Many different qualification tests have been successfully completed within the framework of the project, including initial verification, operation at high and low temperatures, strength, tightness, vibration, drop, and acceptance tests of various types, including accuracy distribution, EMI/EMC, distance and angle measurement, and storage at high and low temperatures.
