Modi speaks with Pashinyan, praises Armenian ruling bloc’s election success

24 June 2026 16:17

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with his Armenian counterpart, Nikol Pashinyan, congratulating him on the victory of his political force in the parliamentary elections.

Pashinyan expressed gratitude to Modi for his congratulations and, in return, congratulated him on becoming the longest-serving elected prime minister in India’s history, wishing him continued success in advancing the country’s prosperity and development, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

The two leaders also discussed the current agenda of bilateral cooperation, including economic ties, high technologies, culture, and several other areas.

On June 7, 2026, Armenian parliamentary elections saw Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party secure victory with approximately 49.89% of the vote and 64 seats in the 105-seat National Assembly, retaining its parliamentary majority.

This outcome allowed the pro-Western ruling party to form a government despite a stronger-than-expected performance by opposition forces, including the pro-Russian Strong Armenia alliance (around 23.3% and 29 seats) and the Armenia Alliance (about 9.95% and 12 seats), while Prosperous Armenia narrowly missed the 4% threshold.
