Moldova clarifies details after Russian drone lands on house

25 November 2025 17:53

Moldovan police have clarified details about a Russian drone that came down on the roof of a house in the village of Lower Cugurești, in the Florești district, confirming that the aircraft was not carrying explosives.

According to the General Inspectorate of Police, the drone was identified as a Russian-made Gerbera model, Caliber.Az reports per Moldovan media.

“Specialists have confirmed that the drone was manufactured in Russia, and inspections showed no trace of explosives. Such devices can be used for disorientation, surveillance, information gathering and the transport of ammunition,” the police said.

The Gerbera drone weighs up to 18kg, can operate at altitudes of up to 3,000 metres, reach speeds of around 160km/h and travel as far as 600 kilometres. Experts noted that the drones are designed to land autonomously when their battery runs low, reducing the risk of uncontrolled crashes and helping protect people on the ground.

The area where the drone landed remains secured, and authorities say there is no threat to the public.

The incident came after Russian forces launched a combined attack on Ukraine overnight using both missiles and drones. Moldova’s Border Police initially reported that one drone had entered the country’s airspace.

Later, officials confirmed that another drone had fallen onto a residential roof. In total, six drones were detected over Moldova during the night.
