Moscow accuses US of attempting to squeeze Russia out of Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement
The US is aiming to oust Russia from the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin made the statement on the air of Russia-24 TV channel on June 9, Caliber.Az reports quoting TASS.
"The US, in my assessment, is trying to achieve the same thing everywhere: on the one hand - to displace Russia, and on the other - to subjugate independent states that are partners and allies of Russia in a neocolonial style, to hinder our partnership and alliance with friends and neighbours. This has always been America's main goal," he said.
Galuzin stressed that there was no alternative to normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the basis of the trilateral statement of the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. At the same time, according to him, the Russian Federation is not opposed to other countries contributing to the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement.
"However, the contribution should not be in words, but in deeds, and should be in line with the fundamental agreements reached by the leaders and which are being successfully implemented," the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said. - Accordingly, the efforts of some other mediators should give added value precisely in terms of the implementation of the fundamental documents of Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization".
