Moscow cautions on risks to global energy from Gulf tensions

Russia has warned that further escalation in the Middle East could have severe consequences for global energy and food security, as tensions continue to rise across the region.

In a statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry, spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow was closely monitoring developments, noting that the situation in the Persian Gulf was deteriorating.

According to Zakharova, parties to the conflict are continuing to exchange strikes, inflicting significant damage on civilian infrastructure in Iran and other Arab states. She also warned of increasing risks to maritime traffic through key global shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.

"In this regard, we call on all parties to the conflict to demonstrate a responsible approach and restraint, to refrain from actions that could provoke an expansion of the geography of armed confrontation and further degradation of the military-political situation in the Middle East. The development of the situation along a negative scenario is fraught with critical consequences for international energy and food security.

We consistently advocate resolving existing differences in this strategically important region of the world through political and diplomatic means, taking into account the interests of all regional states. Russia is ready to provide the necessary assistance in achieving this goal," the statement reads.
