Moscow criticizes British proposal targeting vessels in English Channel
Russia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Andrey Kelin, has criticised a reported British proposal to seize ships in the English Channel, warning that such actions could significantly escalate tensions in a critical international maritime corridor.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, Kelin described the idea as both irresponsible and potentially explosive, highlighting the strategic sensitivity of the waterway.
“Escalation of tensions is spreading to the highly sensitive maritime area of the English Channel, where more than 500 vessels — not only civilian but also military — pass through daily,” he said.
He cautioned that any use of force in such a heavily trafficked region would carry serious risks.
“The use of force in this region is not only irresponsible but also explosive,” he added.
