Moscow details terms for improving ties with Washington
Russia has said it is prepared to move toward normalising relations with the United States, provided that its interests are respected and there is no interference in its internal affairs.
Alexander Gusarov, Director of the North Atlantic Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, made the remarks in an interview with the magazine International Life, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The ministry said that dialogue between Moscow and Washington on resolving “irritants” in bilateral relations has not been interrupted, adding that Russian and American experts held talks a week ago.
It also noted that both sides have managed to stabilise the functioning of their diplomatic missions at a satisfactory level, preventing what it described as a “fatal breakdown.”
On relations with the United Kingdom, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow maintains diplomatic communication channels with London, but their effectiveness is limited due to what it called the British government’s “destructive behaviour.”
The ministry further claimed that London is encouraging European countries to prepare for a direct confrontation with Russia and is working to prevent any easing of tensions between Moscow and Washington.
