Moscow imposes wide traffic restrictions for annual marathon

Moscow has introduced extensive traffic restrictions across parts of the city for the annual Moscow Marathon on September 26, affecting streets and embankments along the race route in the Central and Western administrative districts.

The route runs along the Moscow River embankments, the Garden Ring and Boulevard Ring, Tverskaya Street and the historic centre near the Kremlin.

The earliest restrictions apply to Kosygina Street. The section between Vernadsky Avenue and University Square is closed until 1 p.m., while the stretch from University Square to Vorobyovskoye Highway, in the direction of the highway, remains restricted until 12:15 p.m.

Vorobyovskoye Highway, between Kosygina Street and Berezhkovsky Bridge, is closed until 12:30 p.m. By 12:50 p.m., restrictions apply to Berezhkovskaya Embankment between Berezhkovsky and Borodinsky bridges; Taras Shevchenko Embankment between Borodinsky Bridge and Building 1; the service road of Bolshaya Dorogomilovskaya Street between Berezhkovskaya Embankment and Borodinsky Bridge; and Borodinsky Bridge itself, from Bolshaya Dorogomilovskaya Street to Smolenskaya Street toward the Moscow region.

Smolenskaya Embankment, from Borodinsky Bridge to Building 5/31, is closed until 1 p.m. Restrictions on Rostovskaya Embankment, from Smolenskaya Street to Savvinskaya Embankment, and on Savvinskaya Embankment, from Rostovskaya to Novodevichy Embankment, remain in place until 1:10 p.m.

Until 1:20 p.m., traffic is restricted on Novodevichy Embankment between Savvinskaya Embankment and Berezhkovsky Bridge and on Luzhnetskaya Embankment between Berezhkovsky Bridge and Luzhniki Street. Luzhniki Street is closed until 2 p.m. between Luzhnetskaya Embankment and Building 24, Structure 23.

Parking is prohibited throughout all areas affected by the restrictions until the marathon concludes.
