Moscow offers Poland video of Ivan Susanin opera as reparations
Moscow may offer Warsaw a video recording of Mikhail Glinka’s opera Ivan Susanin (A Life for the Tsar) in response to demands for reparations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
The opera Zakharova referenced tells the story of the events of 1613, related to the Polish army's march on Moscow, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“As reparations, we can provide a link to the video of the opera Ivan Susanin,” she told reporters.
Earlier, the Financial Times (FT) reported that Poland is set to file a reparations claim against Russia for atrocities committed during the Soviet era, when Warsaw was under Soviet influence.
Bartosz Gondek, director of Poland’s Jan Karski Institute of War Losses, said the study of damages will be broader than the evaluation of losses from Nazi Germany’s crimes, for which Poland previously sought compensation of €1.3 trillion.
Polish President Andrzej Duda had made a similar call for reparations from Russia for its role in World War II back in September 2022.
