Moscow says planned explosion near military sites prevented

Russian security services said they have prevented a planned terrorist attack near Defence Ministry facilities in Moscow, according to RIA Novosti, citing the Federal Security Service (FSB).

According to the FSB, a Russian citizen was preparing to carry out an explosion in the area before attempting to travel to Ukraine to participate in combat on the side of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Investigators said the suspect had initiated contact with Ukrainian security services and travelled to Moscow from another region under their direction.

Authorities added that a mobile phone used to communicate with a handler was seized during the operation.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.
