Moscow, Tehran boost maritime security cooperation in Gulf maneuvers PHOTO
The Russian Navy corvette Stoikiy has carried out joint maneuvers with Iranian naval forces in the Gulf of Oman, focusing on coordinated measures to safeguard civilian shipping, Russia’s Ministry of Defence announced.
During the exercises, Russian and Iranian crews practiced joint operational procedures aimed at ensuring maritime security in the strategically significant waterway.
The ministry said that prior to the drills, the Stoikiy made a port call in Bandar Abbas, Iran, where the crew replenished fuel, water and food supplies and participated in official protocol events with their Iranian counterparts.
Earlier reports indicated that Russia, Iran and China are set to conduct joint naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring expanding maritime cooperation among the three countries.
