Moscow, Tehran coordinate on diplomatic approach to Middle East crisis
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation to discuss prospects for resolving the crisis around Iran through political and diplomatic means, according to a statement from Russia’s Foreign Ministry cited by TASS.
According to the statement, the ministers “held a substantive discussion on the ongoing severe military-political crisis in the Middle East,” which Moscow said had arisen as a result of “unprovoked US-Israeli aggression against Iran.”
They exchanged views on the possibility of shifting the conflict toward a political and diplomatic settlement grounded in international law, while taking into account what the statement described as the legitimate interests of all countries in the region. This includes Iran as well as its neighbours among the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
During the call, Lavrov also informed Araghchi about the delivery of a new batch of Russian humanitarian aid to Iran.
