Moscow, Tehran reinforce military ties in new meeting
Russia and Iran have discussed bilateral military cooperation during talks between senior defence officials, as both countries signalled continued alignment amid regional tensions.
Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov met with Iran’s Deputy Defence Minister, Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, Belousov emphasised Moscow’s position on resolving ongoing tensions through diplomacy. “We support resolving the conflict exclusively through diplomatic means. We support Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
He also expressed support for Iran, stating: “I wish the brotherly Iranian people and their armed forces resilience and courage in overcoming all the threats facing the country. We are ready to do everything possible to resolve this situation.”
Belousov added that he was confident Russia and Iran would continue to support each other regardless of how the situation develops.
For his part, Talaei-Nik thanked the Russian defence minister for the meeting and the opportunity to discuss current issues related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
