MP: Kalbajar to welcome tourists with new recreational zones in Karabakh
Karabakh’s Kalbajar district to establish five major tourist zones, said Chairman of the Labor and Social Policy Committee of Milli Majlis Musa Guliyev at today's parliamentary session.
During a discussion on amendments to the "Tourism Law" he noted that the bill includes provisions banning certain types of activities within these tourist and recreational zones, Caliber.Az reports.
It is noteworthy that Kalbajar region, the highest mountainous area in Azerbaijan, is abundant in natural resources, including gold and chromium deposits. Its stunning landscapes, favourable terrain, and rich mineral waters play a significant role in enhancing the region's tourism potential, which is vital for the national economy.
Kalbajar is renowned for its Istisu mineral springs, famous worldwide for their therapeutic properties. These natural hot springs have historically attracted visitors seeking treatment for ailments like rheumatism and arthritis.
The Istisu health resort is situated on the slopes of the mountain range in western Kalbajar and is a result of geological activity from an earthquake in 1138.
Another notable landmark is the Khudavang (or Dedeveng) monastery in Vang village, which exemplifies Azerbaijan’s rich Christian architectural heritage. Additionally, Lev Castle stands majestically atop a ridge 600 metres above the Lev River in Ganlikend village.
Accessed via a narrow path from the north-west, the castle features a single entrance at its north-eastern edge, showcasing the region's historical significance and breathtaking views.
