Nearly 3 million Soviet-era vehicles still on roads in Russia

26 December 2025 20:42

Approximately 3 million vehicles manufactured during the Soviet era are still registered in Russia.

These vintage cars, trucks, buses, and light commercial vehicles now represent a striking 5.5% of the country’s total vehicle fleet, Caliber.Az reports via Autostat data.

The "youngest" of these Soviet-made vehicles are at least 34 years old, making them a rare sight on modern roads. The largest portion of these aged vehicles are trucks, accounting for 27.7% of the total Soviet-era fleet. Buses make up 13.5%, and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) represent 6.6%.

Passenger cars from the Soviet era are the least common, comprising just 3.5% of the total.
