"No jobs, no living conditions, no country" Report from Zvartnots Airport on those fleeing Armenia

12 August 2022 17:16

Journalists of Armenian 5 TV Channel have prepared a report from Yerevan Zvartnots Airport, where they talked to the people, who had bought a one-way ticket, i.e. were leaving the "country of stones" if not forever, then for a long time.

Those departing candidly shared with the journalists the reasons which prompted them to emigrate, Caliber.Az reports.

According to the authors of the report, "the whole nation made a mistake, that is why families are leaving Armenia, the number of emigrants has significantly increased". A man named Vrezh told the camera that people leaving Armenia with their families will not come back. "The doors of many houses are closed," he said.

Armenian journalist: "People say they have no other choice. Ashot, Vrezh's son, also left the country on this basis. Ashot says the number of Armenians living abroad has increased. There is evidence that 4,200 who left last year have still not returned."

Ashot: "There are no jobs, no living conditions, no country. What can we do if we stay here? At least we work and live there. What does Armenia have? Only Nikol. Did Nikol do anything more than asphalt? He laid some asphalt, and he fooled people with it. Yes, I understand, I chose Nikol, I took part in his demonstrations, I trusted him, I believed in him, but it turned out that we were wrong. An entire nation was wrong.

Journalist: "He is not afraid to say out loud that last year there were 70 thousand more people who left Armenia than arrived."

TV respondent: "I don't know why, but I want to leave. They say life abroad is good."

Journalist: "People leave with their families. Grandfather Vrezh understands his son. He thinks that if Ashot does not leave, it will be hard for him and his wife to live here. His pension is barely enough to cover his urgent needs. Whether the trend toward emigration in our country will continue will become clear after the September census. But in the first six months of this year, the number of people leaving has increased by more than 200,000 compared to the same period last year."
