North Korea fires short-range ballistic missiles in morning launch Speculation grows over possible submarine-launched test
North Korea’s military carried out the launch of several short-range ballistic missiles on the morning of April 19.
The missiles were fired at around 06:10 local time from the Sinpho area in an eastern direction and flew approximately 140 kilometers, Caliber.Az reports via South Korean media.
In response to the incident, the South Korean presidential office urgently convened a national security meeting.
Sinpho is known as a North Korean submarine base, raising the possibility that the launches involved submarine-launched ballistic missile systems. South Korean military officials have not ruled out the possibility of simultaneous launches from both sea and land-based platforms.
If confirmed, this would mark the first test of a submarine-launched ballistic missile since May 2022, when a missile traveled about 600 kilometers. This has led analysts to suggest that the latest launch may be linked to testing a new weapons system.
