With this step, Norway joins other NATO members that have condemned recent Russian drone attacks on Poland and airspace violations over Romania, calling the incidents a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to Alliance security.
On September 10, 2025, Russian drones violated Polish airspace, marking a serious escalation amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Up to 23 drones entered Poland, prompting NATO to deploy fighter jets and invoke Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Romania also reported similar violations. NATO described the incursions as a deliberate test of the alliance’s response capabilities, leading to the launch of Operation Eastern Sentry to strengthen defences along its eastern flank. Norway and other NATO countries condemned the actions, emphasising solidarity with Poland and the protection of member states’ airspace.
