Numerous trucks waiting on Slovakian-Ukrainian border
A long traffic jam of cargo trucks stretching about 25 kilometres has been seen on the Slovakian-Ukrainian border.
Cars are waiting on the Slovak border in front of the “Vysne Nemecke” checkpoint. The trucks are waiting at the checkpoint to Fekishovce village to enter Ukraine. A traffic jam is about 16 kilometres, TASS reports citing the police department of the Košice region (Eastern Slovakia).
The reason for such a big traffic jam was the protests of Polish cargo carriers. They block the movement of freight transport on the Polish-Ukrainian border, as a result of which trucks take a detour through Slovakia.
Polish drivers announced a strike in early November, blocking the movement of freight vehicles across the Polish-Ukrainian border. Only buses, trucks with humanitarian aid, perishable food and fuel tanks are allowed to pass through the checkpoint. The strike began because of the benefits provided to Ukrainian drivers. Therefore, their Polish colleagues cannot withstand economic competition. The strike will last until December 3.
