Official: Azerbaijan enables swift delivery of Russian humanitarian aid to Iran
Azerbaijan has played a key role in ensuring the rapid delivery of Russian humanitarian assistance to Iran, a senior official from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said on March 27.
Dmitry Melnik, Director of the Department for International Activities, thanked Azerbaijani authorities for their support in transporting aid through Azerbaijani territory. Speaking to local journalists, he said the second phase of emergency assistance to Iran had been successfully completed in line with instructions from Vladimir Putin.
The latest shipment included more than 300 tonnes of medical supplies and was delivered in under four days, a timeline Melnik described as possible only through close coordination between Russian and Azerbaijani agencies.
“I would like to thank all employees of Russian ministries and agencies, as well as our Azerbaijani colleagues, who contributed to the swift delivery of this humanitarian aid,” he said.
Earlier, a train carrying humanitarian cargo departed from the Astara railway customs and border checkpoint. The convoy, consisting of 31 wagons, transported over 300 tonnes of aid destined for Iran.
