Official: Iranian delegation faced security threat after US talks in Pakistan
A member of Iran’s delegation to negotiations with the United States in Islamabad has claimed the team faced a serious security threat during its return to Iran following the breakdown of talks.
Mohammad Marandi said in an interview with Al-Mayadeen English that the delegation’s aircraft unexpectedly diverted to Mashhad, where it made an emergency landing before members continued onward to Tehran by train, car and bus, Iran International cites.
Marandi alleged that the delegation felt “seriously threatened” during the return journey, though he did not provide details about the source of the alleged danger.
He also claimed the talks ended abruptly following what he described as an intervention by U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance.
Despite the reported concerns, Marandi said the Iranian team was determined to return home and declined to remain in Pakistan after the negotiations collapsed.
