Official: Türkiye pledges constructive role in Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process

11 May 2025 09:43

Chief Adviser to the Turkish President on Foreign Policy and National Security Akif Çağatay Kılıç has said that Türkiye is prepared to play a constructive role in facilitating a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Kılıç affirmed Türkiye’s commitment to promoting peace in the South Caucasus, stating that Ankara is ready to do “everything within its power” to assist the process leading to the normalisation of relations between the two neighbouring countries, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“Ultimately, the decision must come from Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Kılıç noted, stressing that a lasting resolution can only be achieved through the mutual will of both sides. Kılıç also addressed Türkiye’s broader regional vision, saying that Ankara’s approach to its relationship with Armenia is guided by a long-term perspective on regional peace and stability.

Earlier, on March 13, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry announced the conclusion of negotiations on the draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between Baku and Yerevan.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Armenia had accepted Azerbaijan’s positions on these two remaining points of contention. This breakthrough indicates that the peace deal is now ready for official signing.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also affirmed that both nations had reached consensus on the draft agreement’s terms and reiterated Azerbaijan’s ongoing commitment to promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
