Oil refinery hit in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region, fire reported PHOTO / VIDEO

An oil refinery in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region was attacked overnight, triggering a fire, regional authorities and open-source analysts said on July 23.

Residents reported a series of explosions in the region during the night, according to local accounts.

Governor Alexei Russkikh said an energy infrastructure facility in the Novospassky district had been targeted, resulting in a blaze.

“An energy facility was attacked in the Novospassky district, and a fire broke out,” Russkikh wrote.

Open-source analysis by ASTRA, based on eyewitness footage, indicated that the site struck was the NS-Oil refinery in the settlement of Novospasskoye.

According to publicly available data, NS-Oil is a small refinery that handles the receipt, treatment and processing of crude oil into both light and heavy petroleum products, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 30,000 tonnes.
