Pakistan PM’s delayed Russia visit expected in autumn

05 August 2026 09:37

A delayed visit by Shehbaz Sharif to Russia is now expected to take place in the autumn, according to Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, as both sides move closer to finalising dates for the trip.

The visit, originally scheduled for March 3, was postponed amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Tirmizi said preparations have resumed and discussions on timing are at an advanced stage.

“We are currently working out the timing; the visit is expected to take place in the last quarter of this year, that is, most likely in the autumn. We are already close to finalising the dates and remain in contact,” he told TASS.

Officials expect the visit to yield a series of bilateral agreements aimed at deepening cooperation. According to the ambassador, between eight and ten documents are planned to be signed, including a long-term economic roadmap extending to 2030. The agenda is also expected to cover expanded collaboration in economic, social and media sectors.

Tirmizi noted that despite the postponement, part of Pakistan’s business delegation had already travelled to Moscow ahead of the initially planned visit, underscoring continued engagement between the two countries.
