Pakistan reports 352 Afghan soldiers killed in border clashes
The number of Afghan soldiers killed in clashes with Pakistani forces has risen to at least 352, with more than 535 injured, Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has reported on X.
According to him, airstrikes were carried out on 41 targets inside neighboring Afghanistan. The Pakistani army destroyed 130 Afghan checkpoints, while 26 others were brought under control. In addition, the Pakistani Armed Forces struck over 171 enemy armoured vehicles.
Fighting resumed along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on the evening of February 26. Kabul stated it was conducting a military operation in response to recent Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan territory. Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, said that his country and the Taliban-led Afghan government are now in a state of open armed confrontation.
On the morning of February 27, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence announced the end of its operation, reporting 55 Pakistani soldiers killed and the capture of 2 bases and 19 border posts. Islamabad, however, reports that fighting continues.
