Pakistan’s top officials condemn unprovoked cross-border attacks from Afghanistan
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have condemned unprovoked cross-border attacks on Pakistani posts originating from Afghan territory, describing them as a serious violation of the country’s sovereignty.
In a statement, President Zardari said the attacks undermine regional stability and damage friendly relations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Radio Pakistan.
He paid tribute to the professionalism and bravery of the Pakistan Army, noting that forces successfully repelled assaults in Spin Boldak and the Kurram sector.
The President accused the Afghan Taliban government of repeatedly violating the Doha Agreement and providing safe havens to terrorists, whose activities pose a growing threat across the region. He called on Afghan authorities to ensure their territory is not used for terrorism or anti-Pakistan operations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed strong concern over provocations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, citing the involvement of the Afghan Taliban, Fitna-al-Hindustan, and Fitna-al-Khawarij. He praised the army’s decisive response and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty.
“The use of Afghan soil to launch terrorist attacks against Pakistan is utterly condemnable,” the Prime Minister said, emphasising that Pakistan will respond firmly to any aggression.
