Palestine urges Netherlands to investigate incident involving Israeli fans in Amsterdam
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has called on the Dutch authorities to investigate an incident involving Israeli football fans that occurred following a match in Amsterdam.
The ministry made the appeal in a statement posted on X, urging the Dutch government to take action, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
“The Ministry calls on the Dutch government to conduct an immediate investigation into the instigators of these disturbances and to protect Palestinians and Arabs residing in the Netherlands,” the post by the ministry notes.
According to Palestinian allegations, a group of Israeli fans—some of whom were reportedly soldiers—shouted “anti-Arab slogans” and showed disrespect toward Palestinian symbols, including the Palestinian flag, after the match.
The Foreign Ministry condemned these actions and called for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. While expressing concern over the behaviour, the ministry also reiterated its stance against violence in all forms.
The incident followed a Europa League match between Dutch club Ajax and Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv. Israeli media reported that at least 10 Israelis were injured in an attack in Amsterdam after the game, though the details of the attack remain unclear. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry’s call for an investigation reflects ongoing tensions related to the conflict and the presence of Israeli fans in international sporting events.
Earlier, Israeli media reported that at least 10 Israelis were injured in an attack in Amsterdam following a Europa League football match between local club Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, Danny Danon, shared a video of the incident on X, showing the attackers wearing clothing with Palestinian symbols clearly visible. In response, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to Israeli citizens in Amsterdam, advising them to remain in their hotels for safety.
