Pashinyan: Armenia ready to open truck transit from Türkiye to Azerbaijan
Armenia has confirmed its readiness to immediately facilitate the transit of trucks from Türkiye through Margara and Kornidzor into Azerbaijan and back, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced, according to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media.
“We are offering this because all preparations are already complete,” he said.
Pashinyan also stated that a jointly established Armenian-American company will be created for TRIPP, in which Armenia will have a decisive role on matters of strategic importance.
Armenia is currently discussing with the United States two possible lease terms for the “Trump Route” – either 49 years or 99 years. Initially, when the relevant declaration was signed in Washington on August 8, the lease was stated to be 99 years.
The Armenian Prime Minister clarified that the lease duration is tied to investment and profitability. Investors must have guarantees that they will recover their capital along with a certain profit.
Pashinyan emphasised that Armenia does not view these discussions as political; they are purely financial and economic. The length of the lease will depend entirely on the period required to recoup the investments.
The TRIPP project is a flagship regional infrastructure and connectivity initiative designed to link mainland Azerbaijan with its exclave, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, through Armenia’s Syunik region.
The initiative is underpinned by a declaration signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, alongside U.S. President Donald Trump. TRIPP is positioned as both a peace-building instrument and a logistics corridor.
The project encompasses the construction of new rail and road links, oil and gas pipelines, fibre-optic communications lines, and power transmission networks. Its broader aim is to integrate South Caucasus states into the “Middle Corridor” trade axis connecting Europe and Asia, thereby enhancing regional transit, trade, and economic diversification.
