Pashinyan hails "historic" US visit as region moves toward long-term stability

09 February 2026 20:56

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan described US Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Yerevan as a reflection of recent developments in Armenia–US relations, particularly over the past year.

Speaking during a meeting with Vance, Pashinyan said the vice president’s visit was historic, noting that he was the first US vice president—and the highest-ranking US official ever—to visit Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

He emphasized that the visit represented more than a ceremonial gesture, pointing to the significance of a White House meeting with Vance a year ago, which, Pashinyan said, played an important role in shaping subsequent events.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and Vice President Vance for organizing a summit in August 2025 that helped establish peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan also highlighted a recent meeting with the President of Azerbaijan in Abu Dhabi, saying the discussions brought the countries “very close to, if not already at, the point where peace can be considered irreversible.” He added that the next step is to implement key provisions of the Washington Declaration, including the TRIPP project, under the framework signed on January 14 by Armenia’s Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State.

The prime minister concluded by noting that the Armenia–US agenda is extensive, with many topics for discussion, and stressed that the positive nature of the talks reflects the “scale and significance” of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
