Pashinyan re-elected chairman of Armenia’s Civil Contract Party
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has been re-elected chairman of the ruling Civil Contract Party following an internal vote held during the party congress on September 20.
Pashinyan received the highest number of votes among 41 candidates, securing 758. However, a discrepancy emerged as the electronic scoreboard displayed 826 votes, prompting a manual recount, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Speaking after the vote, Pashinyan noted that the results remain provisional: “As we agreed, and as stipulated by our rules on electing party bodies, candidates have 24 hours to file an appeal. At this moment, the results are considered preliminary, and we must wait at least 24 hours.”
More than 6,000 party members participated in the secret ballot, underscoring the scale of the internal election.
Preliminarily, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan and Civil Contract MP Vahagn Aleksanyan were elected as deputy chairmen of the party board.
