Pensioner opens fire near kindergarten in St. Petersburg, Russia

A 72-year-old man opened fire with an air rifle near a kindergarten in St. Petersburg, according to Russia’s Interior Ministry regional department.

The incident occurred on April 15, when police received reports of an unidentified individual shooting toward the grounds of a preschool facility. The suspect was quickly detained and identified as a local resident, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Authorities established that he fired the shots from the window of his apartment. The man claimed he was testing the weapon he had purchased and was aiming at plastic bottles.

Law enforcement is currently considering whether to open a criminal case. The weapon has been seized.
