Pentagon orders full purge of social media, demands removal of diversity, inclusion content by March 5
Pentagon has instructed all U.S. military branches to remove references to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) from official social media by March 5, following the Trump administration's push to end DEI programmes across the federal government.
A memo signed by the Pentagon’s chief spokesman, Sean Parnell, instructed personnel to review years of online content, including news articles, photos, and videos, and delete any material deemed to promote DEI, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
If they cannot complete the task in time, they must temporarily remove all content published during President Biden’s four-year tenure.
The directive comes amid a wider push to reshape the military’s leadership and personnel policies. In recent days, a dozen senior military officials, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown Jr. and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti, were dismissed as part of efforts to remove so-called “woke” leaders.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has also banned the military from using resources to mark cultural awareness months, such as Black History Month and Pride Month, arguing such initiatives undermine unity and mission readiness.
The Pentagon’s move has raised concerns among officials, who warn that the sweeping review could divert attention from critical operational tasks and lead to an excessive purge of historical content.
