PM Pashinyan praises new Armenia-Russia railway link following peace with Azerbaijan
The recent peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is creating unprecedented opportunities for regional connectivity within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated.
Addressing a briefing, Pashinyan emphasized the strategic significance of the developments stemming from the August 8 agreements, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“Recall how, after August 8, some argued that this was an anti-Russian move, aimed against Russia. I maintained that, on the contrary, new opportunities were emerging for Armenian-Russian relations,” he said.
The Prime Minister further highlighted a historic milestone resulting from the agreements: “Now, something that has never occurred in the history of independent Armenia has happened—Armenia and Russia are connected by a railway.”
The peace agreement was concluded at a landmark summit hosted by US President Donald Trump on August 8, 2025, attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The leaders endorsed a joint declaration setting out a seven-point framework for peace, highlighting respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rejection of force.
The foreign ministers of both countries initialled a draft “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia,” in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
