Poland signs contract with Spanish firm for new military airfield radars
The Polish Ministry of National Defence has finalised a contract with Spanish defence contractor Indra Sistemas for the supply of new air control radars for military airfields, set to replace outdated systems from the 1980s.
According to Deputy Minister of Defence Pawel Bejda, Poland is acquiring 15 Drawa air control radars from the Spanish company to enhance the monitoring of aircraft approaching military airfields. The contract, valued at approximately 1.1 billion zlotys ($284 million), will include deliveries extending until 2031, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The agreement also covers the construction of necessary infrastructure to support the operation of the new radar systems, training for assigned personnel, and provision of technical documentation and logistics support. The new radars will replace the ageing AVIA-W stations, which have been in use since the early 1980s at Polish military airfields.
Indra Sistemas, a prominent Spanish firm specializing in information technology, automated test equipment, and military electronics, will oversee the production and integration of the radars, marking another step in Poland's ongoing efforts to modernize its defence capabilities.
