Poland to build Europe’s largest drone defence system
Poland is set to establish the largest drone defence system in Europe, with a contract for the project expected to be signed in the coming days, Le Monde reports, citing Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
“The negotiations between the Polish Armaments Agency and the consortium established for this project have already been completed,” the minister said.
The deployment of the “anti-drone shield” along Poland’s eastern border is estimated to cost around €2 billion. The system will combine domestic weaponry with foreign technologies to provide comprehensive protection.
Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that last year Poland signed a contract with the Turkish company Anduril for the supply of electronic defence systems. The Norwegian company Kongsberg is also involved in ongoing negotiations related to the project.
The new system is intended to safeguard Poland against threats from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and to strengthen border security. Officials say it will be a key component of Poland’s broader efforts to modernize its defence infrastructure in response to evolving security challenges in the region.
