Police arrest four in London over suspected surveillance of Jewish sites
Four men have been arrested in London on suspicion of carrying out surveillance on locations and individuals connected to the Jewish community on behalf of Iran, local authorities said.
According to the Times&Star, citing officials, the suspects include one Iranian national and three men who hold both British and Iranian citizenship. The detainees are 22, 40, 52 and 55 years old.
The arrests were carried out shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday during coordinated operations in Harrow, Watford and Barnet. Police said the detentions followed an investigation into suspected surveillance of sites and people linked to London’s Jewish community.
Commander Helen Flanagan, who heads the counterterrorism unit of the London police, said authorities recognise the concerns such incidents may raise, particularly among members of the Jewish community. She urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour.
Police said search operations are continuing at the homes of those arrested, as well as at additional locations in Wembley and Barnet, as part of the ongoing investigation.
