“Fighter jets were scrambled, and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems have reached full readiness. These measures are preventive and aimed at securing and protecting airspace, especially near threatened areas,” the statement read.
Officials emphasised that the Operational Command continues to monitor the situation, with subordinate forces and assets remaining ready for immediate action.
Poland has repeatedly scrambled fighter jets and placed its air defence systems on high alert in recent months as Russian airstrikes and drone attacks on western Ukraine intensified, with Warsaw citing the need to protect its own airspace near the border.
These actions are described as preventive measures by the Polish Armed Forces, activating Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) jets and radar systems when Russian long‑range aviation or missile barrages occur close to NATO territory.
NATO allies, including aircraft from partner states, have joined in air patrols over Poland on several occasions in response to escalated Russian military operations, underscoring allied readiness along NATO’s eastern flank.
