Polish PM set to seek confidence vote amid political uncertainty
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is expected to submit a motion of confidence in his cabinet to the Sejm, Poland’s lower house of parliament, later this week.
The move comes amid growing political uncertainty following recent presidential election results, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The key objective behind the motion is to dispel rumours of an impending early parliamentary election. The confidence vote aims to reaffirm the government’s stability and demonstrate its ability to continue governing effectively.
This development follows the presidential victory of Karol Nawrocki, a candidate from the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, which remains the principal rival to Tusk’s Civic Coalition. Nawrocki’s win has intensified political competition and raised questions about the future direction of Poland’s government.
Even prior to Nawrocki’s triumph, Tusk had announced plans to restructure his cabinet after the presidential election, including a reduction in the number of ministries as part of a broader government reorganisation.
According to the State Electoral Commission, after counting 100 per cent of the ballots in the second round of the presidential election, Karol Nawrocki emerged victorious with 50.89 per cent of the vote. His opponent, Rafał Trzaskowski, the candidate from the ruling Civic Coalition party, received 49.11 per cent.
